Hi, my name is Shelby and I want my own person to LOVE< LOVE< LOVE on me. I love belly rubs, rubbing and kissing! I absolutely LOVE as much attention as I can get!
I am a very active girl and need an active owner who will exercise me and play with me. I love to go on walks and ride with my foster mom on her bicycle. It took me a while to figure out that I had to run next to her, but I got it finally.
I love men, they are my personal play toys. I love women but men are much more rough housing with me. I love to run and play and I love my balls, but I don't always like to give them up, so my foster mom has two right now that she uses. She throws one and I go fetch it and as I am coming back I see the other one and drop the one that I have in my mouth as she is throwing the other one. Eventually, I will always give you the ball, but right now, I am just not ready to give it up.
I have gotten used to my foster mom's cats as long as they tell me no and hit me on the nose (they don't have any claws), I tend to leave them alone. I will bark at them occassionally after they swat me, but other than that, I don't really care too much about them. I do not really like small dogs because I don't really know how big and strong I am. I want to run and play and am afraid I might hurt a small dog because I am very ranbunctious and strong. I play with my foster mom's GSD's and Samoyed all the time.
I am still working on my socialization because I get very excited when I meet new people and want to jump on them to meet them, so a strong leader is a must to help me continue learning my good dog habits and four feet on the floor and sitting for pets. When it is dinner time, please feed me separately from other dogs, I tend to want to protect my food from the others, however, I am getting much better with sharing, but am not totally trusted yet. My foster mom does have crunchies out all the time and I am ok with sharing those, but when it is dinner time, I like to be by myself.
I do get 'time outs' in my crate when I am just so ranbunctious that I don't want to calm down or if I get scared. I love to sleep in my crate at night, but I really want a treat to go in when I go to sleep. I am house-trained and I love the doggie-door, however, the doggie door is not open when my foster family is not home. It is not safe for this to be open when my family isn't there, it is much safer to be in the house relaxing until they come home.
I know Sit, Stay, Down, Go to Your Place, and to target on your hand ("Touch"), and am really good at close range, however, I am still learning these things at a farther distance and with distractions.
I want and need a gentle but firm and (very important!) consistent leader. Please come meet me, I am a wonderful pup and I just want to grow up into a perfect family member.
Love, Shelby
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
