Samson will be stunning when he puts on the 20 or so pounds we think he needs to gain. He'll be a big beautiful boy: tall, long, and big feet...just needs to grow into his frame. He's a good bit underweight right now and at 1yr old he has some growing to do still. He's got a gorgeous sable coat and soulful eyes. His nickname could be "Prancer" because of his elegant, regal, gait.
As with any adolescent dog, he needs to learn some manners and rules, but he learns very quickly - he's very smart and wants to please. He knows how to "sit" already and we're working on "leave it and "stay" now. He hand feeds very gently and calmly, too. Samson loves to go for long walks and a little running. As he gains weight and strength, he will feel like running a lot more. He walks well on the leash, only needing gentle corrections from time to time.
He does keep his distance when he first meets new people, but warms up after a short time once he knows he can trust the person. He's a very sweet and affectionate guy once he knows he can trust. He's been very good with the cat, only smelling her and a few licks. He will chase her if she runs, but not in an aggressive way. He thinks anything moving fast is a game and he loves to run and play. He has not had any accidents in the house, and will alert when he needs to go out. Also, he can use the doggy door if we have it open. He has not shown any interest in chewing on anything he was not given, either.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
