Please welcome AGSDR's newest puppy - Ranger! The photos tell it all- Ranger's face is strikingly soulful and beautiful. The good news is that so far his personality seems to match. Although he's been with me a very short time, I can tell you he is very affectionate, and seems quite human-focused. He had a brief introduction to the two resident female GSDs, where he was a little overwhelmed by their large size and aggressive investigation of his boy parts, but still managed to remain mellow and relaxed. A cold outdoor hose bath was no problem, Ranger remained still while he was soaked down, washed and towel-dried. This was immediately followed by some playful wet dog romping and shaking in the yard of course!
Ranger is still a puppy, and it appears he did not have any formal training in his previous life, so we'll be working on basic commands, which should be continued with the adoptive family. As a young dog, I expect him to be very adaptable, and from my initial evaluation, I see a more low-key personality in him right now, which may, of course, change with time and training. Ranger is underweight at this time, and I expect he will gain another 15 pounds before he reaches his adult size. Please remember that puppies tend to be in high demand, and I'm looking for just the right fit for him- other dogs and (gentle) kids are probably a good place to start! More updates and photos soon!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
