8/21/2012 Update
Mitzie is a smaller GSD with a lot of love to give. She's now living in Austin and loves the hike and bike trails. She's a great jogging and walking partner with great leash manners. She learned to use the doggy door in less than a day and has not had any accidents in the house. She will alert to go out if the doggy door is closed too. She is trusted to be left free in the home when her foster parents are away for errands and doesn't chew on anything she shouldn't. She hasn't shown any food agressiveness or any negative behaviour. She's been a very "easy" dog to foster, and should easily integrate into her new forever home.
7/15/12 Update
This lovely young lady has finished her training, and has done wonderfully! She knows all of her commands, and is very human attentive, although not clingy. She gets along great with male and female, large a small dogs, and her pictures do not do her justice. She is absolutely gorgeous in the fur! Mitzie, or as some call her, Misty also passed her cat test with flying colors, although that is not always a guarantee. Proper introduction and dilligence are necessary, and the two should never be left unattended for quite a while. Won't you give this lovely girl a chance?
3/8/12
Mitzie is a 5 year old GSD female who is stunningly beautiful. She is 70 lbs. and heartworm negative, spayed, and vaccinated. She loves humans. She was surrendered by her family. She had been an outside dog all her life and lived with another dog. She is now learning to live inside and she seems fine with going in and out at the kennel. She gets along with all the new dogs that she has met at the kennel. Not sure about cats and young kids. She is smart - has learned to leash walk in a matter of only a few weeks.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
