Meet Mia!!! That is pronounced mee-ah. Mia is approximately 4 – 6 years old, but don't let that fool you. This girl is full of energy and would make a perfect running companion with some training. Mia is learning basic commands and is eager to please and very focused, especially when you have cheese in your hand. Mia is also being crated trained and making good progress.
Mia loves to cuddle with her people and is very friendly even around strangers. Her compact stature makes her a manageable “lap” dog. She loves to be around you whenever you are doing things around the house and will settle down with you when you take a break. Mia will follow the resident male GSD around, lay down right next to him, even kiss him. That said, she is NOT a big fan of playing with him when he is rough. She has “sharing” issues with toys and food. The food issue extends to the cats as well. Mia is being fostered in a home with three cats that love dogs. She follows them around so much they get very displeased. She likes to cuddle with them, which they tolerate. She can be very intense with/at them which is being monitored closely to see if it develops further. Anyone wishing to adopt her that has another pet in their household will need to understand she will need supervision until she settles in. Mia could be completely happy as an only dog where she is the center of attention.
Mia came to us on the skinny side. She is now at a great weight of about 60lbs. Mia will be available once we can get an appointment to have her spayed and she has recovered. Check back on Mia's progress as we get to know her better.
Please consider giving this sweet girl a wonderful furever home.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog.
