Marco, a sweet, gentle soul, is a 10-year-old, neutered male GSD, who was rescued after his owner passed away. After being treated for his ear infection, having his teeth cleaned, and being given a bath, he is now himself again. Although he's hard of hearing (the ear infection damaged his eardrums), he is beginning to respond to hand commands. During the time Marco has been in my care, he has been friendly and docile with the female resident GSD and with other dogs he has met on his walks. He totally enjoys all the attention from neighbors when they come up to pet him.
Marco loves to go for his half a mile walk each day. He can't walk too far because he's a little out of shape. In addition, his hips are a little sore which makes it difficult for him to go up and down stairs. Marco settled in quickly with us and now frequently comes to my side asking to be petted. When I stop petting him, he likes to place his paw on my leg hoping to get more loving. Marco is housebroken and likes to be where my dog and I are. When he can't be with us, (i.e. at bedtime when he sleeps downstairs and we sleep upstairs), he rests quietly and patiently without complaint until we wake him in the morning, letting him know it is time to eat and go outside to do his business.
Marco will be a lovely companion for a calm person in a one-story home. What a handsome sweet boy looking for someone to share his life!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
