Luci is a 2 year old female black shepherd with tan legs. On 11/8/19, Luci was spayed and her rear right dew claw was removed as it was a bit floppy. Luci greets everyone with love and doesn’t know a stranger! She enjoys protecting the yard from those menacing squirrels and flying insects as well as hanging out to sunbathe. Luci loves to look out the sliding glass door or any window! Luci came with a habit of jumping and mouthing hands so she could get affection especially after being away from people. We are extinguishing this by saying “uh uh, too bad” and turning away from her. She does not repeat this once told as she’s learning that it won’t earn her the attention. She has greatly reduced the frequency of this behavior. For this reason, she should be on leash until she has been around small children. Luci knows sit and out (of the kitchen); we’re working on down. She plays with toys and loves treats but they are not high motivators for her. She prefers being petted more than anything. Luci is crate and house trained; she does not use the Kong or other food dispensing treats when she’s in the crate but she’ll eat and play with them when you return home. She has been left uncrated and is not destructive. She likes to sneak up on the couch to sleep but knows she is not supposed to. Luci likes to drink out of the toilet so keep those lids closed!
She walks well on a leash and is easily redirected when she pulls. She loves to sniff all the wonderful smells, so if a leisurely walk is what you enjoy, Luci will be a great companion! She is low to medium energy with one 30 minute walk a day and a little play time and she’s happy to hang out with some petting. She sleeps on the dog bed next to the foster’s bed. Luci has some fear of loud, unexpected sounds such as acorns dropping on cars or sirens blaring from emergency vehicles and alerts when this happens. Luci is mostly a quiet girl. Luci is a very affectionate pup who needs reinforcement for appropriate ways to ask for attention. She has not been tested with cats but barks through the fence when she sees one. She is the only dog in the foster home and wants to play with other dogs! She has a wonderful personality and will be an easy addition to your home!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
