Leo has spent the week in Denton with another foster. Good news- he likes cats! He completely ignores the cat. He is also becoming more trusting and enjoying car rides. He made a visit to Petsmart where he let a little girl pet him and he was fine about it. Yay Leo! We are finally cracking your shell! Oh and how could I forget?...He likes to sit in the pool!
1/9/2011- Hey there! My name's Leo- short for Leonidas, the Spartan warrior. The kind folks at the shelter gave me this name after I arrived there around Thanksgiving. Back then I didn't have much to be thankful for. My owners didn't care enough about me to build me a dog-proof fence and I enjoyed climbing the chain-link fence that they had. I was a very scared boy when I arrived at the shelter. I've never known life outside of the backyard- except when I would escape. I had been at the shelter a month and my time was almost up. The kind people at AGSDR got me out in the nick of time!
I've been with my foster family for just over a week and I'm already housebroken...well I haven't had an accident since my first day here, but I think I have the hang of it! I'm a very smart boy and catch on quickly. I have also learned to walk nicely on a leash and enjoy walks very much. I still get nervous at times, but I'm learning to be a well-loved dog. I enjoy my man cave or "crate" as my foster mom calls it. I even know to go and get in it when she says "get in your crate". I told you that I'm a pretty smart guy!
I love other dogs, even small ones. Mom says I need to go to a home with at least one other dog. I feel more comfortable when I have other dogs around me- they put me at ease. Oh, and I'm not sure if I like cats, because I've never met one. I'm a very laid back guy, so it may not be an issue. I'm only around a year old and have lots of years and love to give. Can your home be my forever home?
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
