Layla is a gem and would truly be a wonderful addition to a home that is looking for a smart, playful and friendly companion. She is immediately curious and friendly toward anyone she meets. She is not a barky type of dog but can be vocal like a husky when she wants to tell you something. She is great at playing with children as well as cuddling with them. Her favorite activities include doggie playgrounds, swimming, hikes and long walks. She LOVES the outdoors and playing with other doggies. She is extremely smart and is learning commands including sit, stay, come and paw.
She is currently indoors the majority of the day with frequent time outside for exercise including a daily walk. She does just fine with this routine and is able to settle in with naps throughout the day. She is great on the leash. She is crate trained and goes in there to eat her bone, nap or sleep at night.
Layla has never shown any aggression towards people or kids. In fact, she is quite submissive with people. The more Layla experiences and has strong guidance from her owner, the more Layla learns and exhibits good behavior. She is still maturing from puppy hood. She is around my resident dog (4 years old) all day and has learned how to engage with other dogs when sharing couch time, sharing attention from owner and playing chase. She LOVES to play with other dogs at the park and does best with medium to large size dogs.
I have not witnessed her around cats. She does get excitable around deer including jumping or lunging towards them but with guidance, this reaction has been reduced significantly on walks. She needs that strong leadership from an owner to show her the proper way to behave in excitable situations.
She is currently up to date on vaccines and has been spayed.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
