King is a very sweet and gentle male GSD. He was Heartworm Positive low and began his treatment on 1/14/2011. He will be available, upon completion, around mid February. King is a handsome GSD, possesses a strong desire to please and is a pure treasure. He barks occassionally but definitely not excessively.
He lives for attention, seeks human touch and makes great eye to eye contact. He is neither a watch dog nor protector at this point but should someone want a good friend to chum around with, King is an excellent choice for a dog. King needs his exercise. Without energy releasing activity, he can get bored and into mischief, like most GSD’s. He looks forward to his walk and his playtime. When fully exercised, he is quite the cuddler.
He loves toys; especially stuffed squeaky toys and rubber balls. King will go to a doggie toy-box, remove a ball, take it outside and bounce it himself. He retrieves balls when thrown and loves to run and play with humans whenever possible. King responds to his name (which was given to him by Animal Control). He will come when called, sit and down on command. He is now trained to use a doggie door and a loading ramp. Since he is a 70 lb. dog, the ramp is a great tool for loading King into and out of the vehicle. King rides well in vehicles and usually settles for a nap shortly into the ride.
King shows no aggression towards people, other dogs, or cats. He has gained confidence since his release from Animal Control but will still scare if loud noises or something startles him. There is no aggression displayed during the scare, only a lowering of the head and the desire to escape the situation. With plenty of love and reassurance, King will be a wonderful best friend.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
