Meet beautiful Jill AKA "Jilly Bean". A kind lady in Houston found her as a stray and took care of her until she could be placed in a rescue so she could find her forever home. Because of her past Jill is a shy girl that needs time to warm up to her environment. For the first several days she would spend a lot of time on her own evaluating things. Once she did though she enjoys spending time with her pack and is never far away from the activity. She loves to get petted and often comes up and nudges your hand for attention. She has even come out to meet guests and ask for attention. On walks she is calm and allows strangers to pet her. She has gone to the dog park several times and gets along well with other dogs but is never very far from her human.
Jill does not like thunder storms which is not uncommon for GSDs and you will likely find her climbing into your lap for reassurance. Surprisingly she did well on the 4th of July and didn't really react to the fireworks. Jill got along with the resident GSD immediately and now is quite fond of him. She came to us at the same time as a 2 1/2 month old puppy and is very tolerant of him. All three love to spend time in the back yard playing chase or wrestling in the house. Jill really loved following a smack talking squirrel as it jumped from tree to tree along the back fence. Jill initially ignored the resident cats but has learned that chasing them and trying to get them to play is fun. She has shown no aggression towards them.
While she is crate trained there has been no need to do so after the first few nights. We keep a crate available and when she wants she goes and lays down in it. She is house trained. Jill came to us slightly HW+ and underwent heartworm treatment successfully and was then spayed when she was healthy enough.
Due to her shy nature she would do best in a home without young children and with a family that has the time and patience to help her blossom into the awesome confident dog that she can be. She has come a long way in her foster home. She is wonderfully behaved and does not require discipline. Please consider adopting this kind girl and let her give you all the love that she has to offer.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
