Jamie, determined by a Vet to have been born in May/June of 2010, now weighs in at 55 lbs. Her delicate frame resembles her to a member of the deer family, but her German Shepherd heritage comes through loud and clear. She is a strikingly attractive young dog with beautiful white teeth, a shiny coat, and fantastic German Shepherd ears that stay erect all the time and look bigger than her. Jamie’s petit size, coupled with her oversized ears, bring her a lot of attention when we take her for her outings among the public.
Jamie’s socialization and confidence has improved tremendously in the past two months. She successfully completed a 6 week basic obedience course at Tail Town Training School in Bastrop. Because of this training/socializing, her skiddish nature has greatly diminished. And she now walks well on a loose lead. We work on her loose lead walking every day to maintain this training. Her recall still needs work but we have begun working on that again too. Each day she spends with us in foster care involves some type of socialization and confidence building. Her trips into public places such as stores, walks in congested areas and open-air restaurants have also greatly helped her development. Jamie also recently stayed with a couple who have a dog, 3 cats, 3 horses and 9 goats out in the country. After day three, she made peace with the 3 horses and one of the cats and became good friends with their resident 4 year old male Vizsla. We feel this experience has helped to round her out even more and she enjoyed having another dog to play with again, since her former co-foster, Kyle, had been adopted.
Jamie loves to chase squirrels and run freely throughout our yard. Jamie’s loves are to chase a lazer light, play interacting chase and wrestle games with her humans and to go places by means of a walk or car with her humans. Jamie does not show much interest in balls, Frisbees or sticks but she loves to play with her stuffed “squeaky” toys which she tends to slowly unstuff and destroy. Jamie also loves to play with water. She will try to catch the water coming from a water hose or splash in puddles after a rain or run and splash in a pool of water. Jamie would love to get her own kiddie pool someday.
From a health perspective, Jamie is in excellent condition. As with all AGSDR dogs, she has a complete vaccination record, documented medical history, is spayed, micro-chipped, and heart-worm negative. Jamie is generally a well behaved and well settled little girl. If you are seeking a sweet, adorable, smaller GSD, then Jamie is a prime candidate. A great relationship with Jamie is possible but it won’t happen overnight. Time spent winning Jamie’s friendship and trust will result in a very positive human/dog relationship as it has for her with us.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog.
