Child Interaction Observations
All interaction between animals and children should be supervised at all times.
Eli earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate on 09-27, we are so proud of him! He keeps surprising us with his ability to learn and absorb information. Eli has come a long way in the last 4 months. He has great potential to accomplish so much more. His ideal adopter will be someone who is as enthusiastic about dog training as he is.
Update 9-23-12
Eli is continuing his quest to learn more commands/behaviors. We are looking for a family who will enjoy him as a training partner, maybe even pursue formal obedience with him. As we get to know him better and better, we feel Eli is best suited for a family with older children (10 to 12, or older). He is very loving towards his people, but he is easily excitable and can knock down a little one inadvertently. He loves to cuddle up with his human in bed. It is very important, however, for his new family to practice NILIF ("Nothing In Life is Free") with him. It helps him establish his boundaries and his position in the pack. Eli responds very well to marker training and it will be beneficial for his new family to have an understanding of the system.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
