Casey is the big, gorgeous canine companion you have been waiting for! At his last vet visit, he weighed in at exactly 100 pounds! He is fully housebroken, polite with visitors, and has free range of the house at his foster home. He gets along really well with children but might intimidate the littlest ones with his size. Casey is a chill dog who is content to spend most of his day lying at your feet, chewing his bone or his Kong ball while you work or watch TV. He loves playing outside with his Jolly Ball or his rope toy, and he enjoys going for car rides for a puppucchino. He's usually asleep before we get out of the neighborhood but will wake up for a drive-thru window. Casey understands having his paws cleaned off when he comes back inside on wet days and will stand quietly for each paw to be cleaned, and is well-mannered and calm for baths. He came through the recent storms and fireworks stress-free and worry-free-- no thunder, firework, or separation anxiety here! He barks when appropriate but is not very vocal for a German Shepherd.
Casey was enrolled in a board and train program to help him through his behavioral issues/introductions to other dogs. He should probably be the only dog in the household. During his training, here are some points made by the trainer: In the absence of other dogs, he is an absolute dreamboat. While in training while working with him around other dogs at a distance, he certainly does get overstimulated, but the really great news is we can give him vocal cues in physical direction and he will leave off and move on. He is just a big dog, so one needs to know what they are doing to handle him. Continuation training working on goodly skills, impulse control and having him in a head collar will assist with his progress in this area.
Casey did great in training and everyone at the training facility loved him. With additional training, the trainer felt he will get to a place where he can live with another settled dog, and can be handled around another dog. Whomever adopts Casey is going to need a bit of handling training and have the required German Shepherd experience which will allow Caey to thrive in their care.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
