Meet Caidence! Caidence is completely house and crate trained. She loves her crate and it is her refuge if she gets scared or thinks she is in trouble. She does not chew on anything in the house and we can leave her out of her crate when we leave for shorter durations. I will say that if you make yourself a sandwich and then walk away for a minute, she will think you made the sandwich for her!
So far her interactions with other dogs has been tense. She seems friendly at first, but then gets reactive quickly. This is with both large and small dogs. We have only had her interact with about 6 other dogs. Introductions with other dogs should be very slow and will take some time. She has a ton of energy in the morning and loves to play fetch with a stick, but absolutely loves the squeaky ball. After she gets some exercise she is pretty mellow the rest of the day.
She gets very attached to her family. While she more closely associates with one person, she likes to be around all of the family. She just wants to be where you are. She doesn’t appear to have much separation anxiety, She is very leery of strangers and barks a lot when strangers arrive. She will only tolerate being petted if she is near a family member and will not let a stranger get close to her otherwise. This will last the better part of a day then she will start to adjust.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
