Hi: My name is Bear. I joined the Austin German Shepherd Pack in February. Here is my story. My owner surrendered me because the Yorkie I lived with did not like me. He was just spoiled rotten. I lived with 2 cats and barely even noticed them. I love to run and play and am really happy when someone spends time with me. I am good inside the house, but usually only was able to come inside during thunderstorms which really frightens me. Because my owners were so busy, they were not able to spend a lot of time with me when I was outside in the yard. That is another reason they surrendered me.
I met my first friend at the Bark Park in Georgetown. It took me awhile to warm up to him, and I growled at him for awhile; but after being allowed to run off leash in an area all to myself, I settled down and stood quietly by him.
Here is what I am looking for in my human companion. Someone who will let me be part of their family and not put me in the back yard with no interaction. I am a sweet boy just hoping that my next home will rub my belly and be patient with me while I get acquainted with my new surrounding. In short, LOVE is the word that says it best.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
