Little Amy was rescued from San Antonio animal shelter after being picked up as a stray. It’s surprising that she wound up there, because in addition to being adorable, she is a highly intelligent and good-tempered puppy. She seems to have potential for advanced training, as she has learned commands and the rules of her foster home in very little time. In addition to being naturally obedient, she is both food and toy driven, and this will make her continued training much easier. Amy has done well in foster. She gets along wonderfully with her canine housemates and so far has behaved appropriately with our cats. When at public adoption events her behavior is outstanding. She is an affectionate cuddler and loves to play fetch and chase. She is not a picky eater. She does have tremendous energy, so she would do well in a house with a yard and an owner who has time to provide lots of exercise and mental stimulation for her. Amy has briefly interacted with children and behaved appropriately with them. She has not been destructive in our home, but she does like to dig in the yard. She also needs further leash training, but this would likely not be very difficult. In summary, Amy is a joyful, intelligent little puppy who is ready to be molded into a wonderful family pet!
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
