Hi! My name is Rocky and I am three years old. My foster mom and dad say that I am a gentle giant. I am a very happy dog with a great temperament. I am a really good boy and I listen very well. I like it when you talk to me -- I will look at you with my big brown eyes and wag my big tail with joy at the sound of your voice. I am good with other dogs, but would probably be happiest as an only dog so I can have all the attention or maybe okay with a larger doggie playmate who is close in age/energy level to me. I like to chase cats, so I should be in a home without cats. I just really enjoy the company of people and loooove attention!
I am housebroken, and I know sit, shake, and lay down. I am also crate trained so I will go in my crate when you ask. I am looking for a family who will not leave me at home alone all day since I am very social and like to be with people. I would be best in a home where someone can take me on walks during the day and play with me.
Because of my size, to keep my joints healthy, I will need someone to give me short, daily walks at least two to three times per day. It is really important to me that my family is committed to walking me and keeping me in shape. Because of my large size, I would not be a good jogging partner. Speaking of walks, I walk very good on a leash. I also like to hang out inside the house and play with my toys. I LOVE toys - especially the red kong toy. I will bring it to you over and over and over again! I have A LOT of energy when it is time to play! I would love someone who would play kong outside with me every day, so I hope my future family will have a nice backyard where we can play and time to dedicate to playing with me.
I am a very special dog and I am looking for a equally nice family who will take me for daily walks, play with me outside, and make me a part of their daily family activities.
From Rocky's Foster Family: We are looking for someone who is committed to taking him for daily walks and making time to play with him outside in an adequately-sized yard. The time to walk him and play with him in a backyard is essential. He really loves going for walks, playing with toys, and spending time with his people. We are also asking that his adoptive family be willing to take him with them on "adventures" - out to restaurants, to the pet store, Home Depot, and anywhere else dogs are allowed. He is so friendly that it would be a disservice to him if he wasn't allowed to meet new people and spread his joy with everyone.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog. The dog's age and weight are estimates, and statements about the health, temperament, training, and ability to get along with other animals, children, cats and other dogs, are estimated solely based on our volunteer's experiences with this dog. Your experiences with this dog may be quite different than those of our volunteers.
