While in foster, Beau has shown himself to be a certified lover boy and teddy bear whose top priority is getting affection. His large size will not stop him from trying to crawl into your lap. Aside from seeking pets, Beau’s favorite pastimes are playing fetch and tug, running at top speed around the yard, and chasing squirrels.
He has an excellent temperament. It’s hard to overstate how sweet and goofy he is. He gets along well with his 2 female GSD roomies, and has had positive interactions with new people and dogs. He can be protective of food, treats and toys. There have been some minor disputes regarding these but they were easily settled.
Beau has been receptive to training and obeys commands. He walks well on a leash, and despite his size doesn’t pull you along. He tolerates being crated under certain circumstances but prefers to roam and has not been destructive or unruly when left alone in his foster home.
Beau is a big, rambunctious puppy and needs a home with plenty of space. Due to his size and energy levels this is very important. He would not do well in an apartment or condo with a small yard. For these same reasons, he would also be better in a house without small children. He is sweet as can be but could knock a little one over with his giant, clumsy puppy body! He has been exposed to cats and shows little interest.
If you’re looking for a dog that genuinely gives back the love he gets, Beau’s your boy.
NOTE: In our experience many German Shepherd Dogs are very good with kids. In our bios, we may provide information on our experience with a particular dog and children. However AGSDR discourages ALL unsupervised animal/child interaction. Children should be supervised at all times when they interact with ANY animal, whether it is a horse, dog, cat, bunny, lizard, or any other species. Even loving household pets can have a grumpy day, or otherwise get tired of a child's attention, so proper supervision is essential for the well being of any child and any pet.
The entire biography of this dog is based solely upon our volunteers' experiences with the dog.
